new music video!

Time Flies is the first music video from our new album Lessons in Time. It was directed and filmed by our long-time collaborator Gianfranco Bichine (who was supported by his sister Victoria). To highlight the dreamy, surreal quality of the song, the video was shot using a rare vintage Pixelvision PXL2000 video camera from the 1980s.

new album!

From the PLAYGROUND magazine:
Three-piece band KARMACODA, who we interviewed, has released a new album titled Lessons In Time. The LP includes the previously unheard song ‘Time Flies’ as well as the already-released singles ‘Fly By’ and ‘Fire’. Signed under the Sola Musa Music imprint, the 13-track project is available across all major streaming platforms.

The album is a welcome addition to the band’s growing catalogue. Their music has been lauded by print and digital media publications CLASH Magazine and Wonderland Magazine. Furthermore, the trio have won multiple awards: The video for their single ‘Lo-Fi Girl’ was awarded a Hermes Creative Awards (Platinum) and their video ‘Make Me The One’ received an Unglued Music Video (Gold).

Lessons In Time embodies vocalist Jessica‘s life experiences. To this end, she says, “The songs on Lessons In Time were written from reflecting on my life, looking back in time, reliving my best memories. No regrets. These songs are lessons in time.”

Reactions to Slow Down, Melt and Catch Fire

CLASH MUSIC

KARMACODA offer languorous, emotive alt-pop shapes. While the production is gorgeous there's also a refinement to their songwriting, with those contoured edges applying a fresh intensity to the work. New single 'Make Me The One' has a graceful charm, with KARMACODA exuding seduction on this enveloping alt-pop statement.

CELEBMIX

Between the lead singer’s stunning vocals and the sophisticated production style, ‘Make Me The One’ can be compared to artists across a wide spectrum, including Adele, Sia and Alicia Keys.

HOT PRESS

Hot Press are delighted to premiere the brand new dark-pop single from award-winning outfit Karmacoda, 'Traps'. Following on from recent track 'Make Me The One', 'Traps' calls to a unique combination of Massive Attack, Radiohead, Frank Ocean, Glass Animals, Sia, Adele, Hope Sandoval and Alicia Keys. While creating their otherworldly music, Karmacoda prioritise their lead singer Jessica Ford’s stunning vocals and the sophisticated production style. An intimate duet between Jessica and B., 'Traps' explores the dark complexities found within an unhealthy relationship. Featuring acapella elements and deep basslines creating a downtempo drive, the new track is both alluring and refined as light and dark vocals gently play with each other.

POP OFF

San Francisco-based pop trio Karmacoda released their brand-new album, Slow Down, Melt and Catch Fire, on July 2 via Sola Musa Music. And it’s ooh la la excellent. Karmacoda’s sound blends hints of dream-pop, R&B, soul, and cashmere electronica.

The album opens with the sumptuous “Dream On,” with plush, polished hues topped by Jessica’s rich, dulcet voice, imbuing the lyrics with exquisite surfaces. A low-slung rumbling rhythm gives the tune creamy, quixotic undulations. The luscious harmonic flow embraces dream-pop and R&B flavors.

Highlights include the sensuous, romantic “Make Me the One,” rippling with velvety textures flowing elegantly as Jessica’s tones infuse the lyrics with ardent passionate coloration. Whereas the downtempo dream-pop leitmotifs of “Lo-Fi Girl” give the song’s melody translucent, gossamer patinas. Brett’s tender, affectionate timbres inject the lyrics with the ache of love.

“Departure” rolls out on silky amalgamations of drifting tendrils, blending R&B and pop savors into a gorgeously radiant confection. “Never” opens on dark, throbbing colors, akin to a beating heart, while “How I Feel,” a personal favorite, rides a delicious, cavernous bassline as Brett’s heartfelt tones infuse the lyrics with burning desire.

The dream-pop spill of “Not Afraid” glides on floating sheens of color as wistful vocals give the song wafting dreamy filaments. The final track, “Burn,” oozes shifting aromas of R&B, soul, and pop tints. Glazed with lustrous romantic pigments, Jessica’s alluring voice is at once bewitching and tantalizing.

Wonderfully wrought, Slow Down, Melt and Catch Fire is superb.

SON OF MARKETING

Mixing up soul, electro and R&B in with the bands smart and sassy alt-pop means that Slow Down, Melt and Catch Fire is a smoldering smart slice of 2021 from beginning to end. From Opener Dream On, the band show they can handle melody, whilst giving emotive performances and wrapping it all up in smoky, wispy electro beats and synth lines.

M.I.S. MAGAZINE

While creating their otherworldly music, KARMACODA turn to the variegated likes of Massive Attack, Radiohead, Frank Ocean and Miles Davis. Between the lead singer’s stunning vocals and the sophisticated production style, ‘Make Me The One’ can be compared to artists across a wide spectrum, including Adele, Sia and Alicia Keys.

IHOUSEU

‘Make Me The One’ holds all of the aspects to become an instant atmospheric romantic hit single. KARMACODA allow for a slow, glistening ambiance to develop, putting Jessica’s signature vocals centre stage and building an air of timeless beauty around it. The band did what many great artists have done before them – turned pain into power and released it as an intimate ode to the world.

new album and music video!

We're thrilled to announce our new album Slow Down, Melt and Catch Fire, and the third music video Feels, from the album! The new album features 14 brand new songs and features guest musicians Andy Korn (drums and percussion) and Eamonn Flynn (piano and keys) as well as KARMACODA's members Jessica Ford (vocals), B. (vocals, keys, guitar) and Eric Matsuno (bass, synths). Slow Down, Melt and Catch Fire is the most personal and meaningful record we’ve ever made. That’s partly due to the events of the past year and a half and a great deal to do with how we responded to it. As writers and musicians we felt like the world got more “real” and we needed to explore those feelings and see where it took us.

Feels is our new music video directed by Gianfranco Bichine and features Karmacoda vocalist Jessica Ford in the historic San Francisco Treasure Island building where our rehearal and recording studio is located.

An intimate duet between Jessica and B., 'Traps' explores the dark complexities found within an unhealthy relationship. Featuring acapella elements and deep basslines creating a downtempo drive, the new track is both alluring and refined as light and dark vocals gently play with each other.

The vocal range of singers Jessica Ford and B. leave much to admire with their latest duet ‘Traps’, the vocalists who form part of the trio KARMACODA capture us with radiant alto vocals that reach for significantly high notes from Jessica Ford. Combined with this is the rich baritone embrace that B. rocks. Together these elements, along with downtempo instrumentals from Eric Matsuno, create a sweet harmony that many struggle to achieve in this genre.
